Statement of Solidarity on the Occasion of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day

The Foundation for Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations (FODASUN) has released a solidarity statement on the occasion of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Anti-Sanctions Day, observed on 25 October 2025. The full text of the statement is as follows:

On the occasion of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, the Foundation of Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations (FODASUN) expresses its deep solidarity with the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe in their ongoing struggle against the unjust and unilateral sanctions imposed by external powers.

We acknowledge that these coercive economic measures have inflicted significant hardship on the people of Zimbabwe, undermining their right to development, economic sovereignty, and social well-being. Such unilateral sanctions stand in violation of international law, the principles of the United Nations Charter, and the spirit of multilateral cooperation.

As an Iranian civil society organization, we are all too familiar with the destructive impact of similar sanctions imposed on our own nation. We therefore share a mutual understanding of Zimbabwe’s resilience and unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty, dignity, and the right of its people to determine their own destiny free from external interference.

We commend the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for its principled and unified stance against these unjust measures and for designating this day as a moment for continental and global reflection on the need to uphold fairness, justice, and respect for the sovereignty of nations.

The Foundation of Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations (FODASUN) reaffirms its steadfast support for the people of Zimbabwe and calls upon the international community to remove all illegal sanctions and engage in genuine dialogue and cooperation grounded in equality and mutual respect.

Together, we assert that solidarity among nations under sanctions constitutes a form of resistance and a collective stand for dignity and independence.

Long live the friendship between the peoples of Iran and Zimbabwe.
