Zoroastrian Dakhma (Tower of Silence)
A Dakhma also called a Tower of Silence, is a circular, raised structure built by Zoroastrians. This relic is located 15 km south-east of Yazd near the Safaiyeh area and is located on a desert and low mountain called Mount Dakhma. The function of this tower was to bury corpses. In the past, they laid dead bodies above the towers to feed the birds. Later they dropped the bones into the pit. This was to prevent soil contamination.
