On the Eve of International Day of Peace: Statement by the International Institute for Cultural Convergence on the Necessity of Lasting and Just Peace

On the International Day of Peace, the International Institute for Cultural Convergence, citing fundamental human values and the shared heritage of monotheistic religions and human morality, emphasizes the urgent necessity of returning to the authentic path of dialogue, rationality, tolerance, and justice on a global scale.
Today, human society faces structural, complex, and unprecedented challenges; ranging from deep ideological divides and escalating geopolitical tensions to profound economic inequalities and intensifying environmental crises. These factors, in their synergy, have created structural barriers to the realization of true peace. Such challenges threaten not only physical security but also the cultural, moral, and social cohesion of nations.
This Institute reminds the world that lasting peace is never defined by the silence imposed by tyranny, nor is it merely the absence of war and armed conflict. Rather, it is a robust manifestation of justice, the rule of law, the protection of the fundamental rights of societies, and a profound respect for the inherent dignity of human beings. Any peace built upon the foundations of discrimination and double standards will remain unstable and fragile.
We observe with deep concern that, in the contemporary era, the legal concepts of peace have been exploited to justify interventionist behaviors. Violations of territorial integrity, breaches of national sovereignty, and security threats against nations—including hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran—are not only blatant instances of warmongering and clear violations of global peace but also demonstrate the lack of effective oversight by international organizations in the face of the unilateralism practiced by certain powers.
Accordingly, we call upon all international organizations, sovereign bodies, and competent legal authorities to decisively place the following matters upon their executive agendas:
1. Commitment to the principle** that lasting and just peace can only be realized under the shadow of upholding the rights of societies, protecting the right to self-determination of nations, and eliminating structural discriminations.
2. Emphasis on the fact that all international human rights treaties and conventions regarding the law of armed conflict must be applied equally to all governments and global actors, without discrimination, selectivity, or double standards.
3. Adoption of preventive and deterrent measures** against any acts of aggression and illegal interventions against independent countries (including Iran) that undermine regional and global security and peace.
4. Decisive prevention of the erosion of international legal norms and institutions** in the face of political pragmatism and the transient interests of powers.
5. Strengthening cultural protocols to prevent Islamophobia and any destructive identity-based confrontations, and providing structural platforms for the convergence of the world’s intellectual elites to overcome transboundary crises.
We firmly believe that breaking through the barriers of current tensions and crises will only be possible through the convergence of cultures, respect for the territorial integrity of nations, and a return to global ethics; for peace is the natural fruit of justice.
