Imamzadeh Hossein, Qazvin

Imamzadeh Hussein is the son of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza whose tomb is located in Qazvin. It was said that at the age of two, when he was on a trip to Marv during the passage of Qazvin, he died in this city and was buried there. The most famous and most ancient Imam Zadeh in Qazvin and one of the most famous Imamzadeh of Iran. The building of this Imam Zadeh is one of the historical monuments of Qazvin, dating back to the Safavid period.
Decorating, mirroring, tiling and other arts used in it are very spectacular and one of the most beautiful buildings in Qazvin. This monument has registered as one of the national monuments of our country due to its historical, architectural and decorative significance on Feb 10, 1940. It is one of the oldest graves of Iran, the most famous and most magnificent pilgrimage place in Qazvin city.
The monument of Imamzadeh Hossein is located in a large courtyard with two entrances from the north and south. There are porches around the courtyard decorated with tiles in various designs. The entrance to the monument of Prince Hossein has Muqarnas and various decorations, which in the Qajar period with the addition of a hall to it, got a new design. In the western and eastern part of the grave, there are two porches known as Bala-Sar and Payan-Pa, which have stucco and tiles. The oldest and most beautiful piece of Prince Hussein’s collection is a woodcarving door that was added to the collection in 967 AH. According to the inscription, this collection was rebuilt in 1040 AH on the orders of Zaynab Beygum, the daughter of Shah Tahmasb Safavi that also put a precious wooden box on its grave.
