A specialized meeting of Iranian NGOs with the United Nations special rapporteur on the issue of the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights was held at the Foundation for Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations office.
In line with the mission of the UN Special Rapporteur on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, a meeting was held at the office of FODASUN with the presence of 7 non-governmental organizations on Thursday, May 22. This meeting, which was held due to unexpected reasons in the absence of Ms. Dohan and with the presence of her senior assistants, Christophe Pechoux and Damianos Serefidis, was opened with a welcome and a short speech from the honorable CEO of the foundation.
In the continuation of this meeting, Mr. Kouhian from the Union of Film and Video Program Producers gave a speech. He explained the financial and technological problems caused by the cruel sanctions, which have made the country’s film industry face problems and have caused the rights of filmmakers and artists to be violated.
Then, on behalf of the country’s music community, Dr. Pirouz Arjomand addressed the destructive role of extraterritorial and unilateral sanctions, including its effect on the number of students in the field of music, the number of active orchestras in the country, and the quantity and quality of instruments needed by artists.
Mr. Dr. Eslami Fard, on behalf of Razi Insurance Company, addressed the problems and obstacles caused by the ban on the insurance industry in Iran. He pointed out the problems of Iranian truck and trailer drivers outside the borders of the country, that due to the impossibility of insurance coverage, their rights are lost. Also, Mr. Abedinzadeh, on behalf of the Iranian Deaf Family Association, mentioned the problems caused by unilateral coercive measures for the deaf in Iran, including the price and quality of hearing aids used by the groups in question.
Next, Ms. Ghaffari presented her report on behalf of the Iranian Autism Association. she addressed the problems caused by the sanctions that these patients are facing in the field of access to education, financial resources and needed medicines.
Finally, Mr. Pechoux, special assistant of SR, as the last speaker of this meeting; expressed his hope that in the remaining time, the NGOs could send him their reports in writing along with data, facts, and specific case examples that show the violation of human rights caused by unilateral coercive measures. It should be noted that; The Special Rapporteur will present his conclusions and recommendations in the form of a report in September 2022 to the 51st session of the Human Rights Council.
