Visiting the Nonviolent Peaceforce Institute – Geneva


As the Executive Director of Nonviolent Peaceforce, Ms. Tiffany Easthom hosted the members of the Foundation of Dialogue and Solidarity of Unites Nations at their office in Geneva. In this meeting, Huibert Oldenhuis, the Global Head of Programming was also present, we had some constructive conversations. After introducing the members and activities of the foundation in recent years, a short report on the human rights problems that Iran has suffered in recent years due to unilateral sanctions was presented.
While condemning the phenomenon of using the language of sanctions by some countries, the CEO of Nonviolent Peaceforce added that; she is well aware of the human rights problems of the embargoed countries. Ms. Easthom further explained the institute’s focus in recent years on the macro procedures of peace creation and capacity building for it, focusing on the macro-political and legal issues and moving away from the small and minor tasks that were done in the past. In the following, it was agreed that in the next meetings and also through email correspondence; Fields of cooperation should be analyzed in the future.
Nonviolent Peaceforce mission is to protect civilians in violent conflicts through unarmed strategies, build peace side-by-side with local communities, and advocate for the wider adoption of these approaches to safeguard human lives and dignity. NP envisions a worldwide culture of peace in which conflicts within and between communities and countries are managed through nonviolent means. They are guided by principles of nonviolence, non-partisanship, primacy of local actors, and civilian-to-civilian action. NP practice direct action on immediate threats of violence as well sustained change by interrupting systemic violence.
