Alamut

Alamut is one of the most important tourist attractions of Qazvin province, which is located near Tehran’s metropolitan area. Because of its shorter distance with Qazvin’s historic areas, it always has many domestic and foreign tourists.
Alamut castle is a historic fortress located in the northeast of Gazarkhan village in Qazvin Province, on a high cliff height of 2163 meters. According to narrations in 486 AH, a person named Hassan Sabah captures this castle, and therefore Alamut knows as the fortress of Hasan Sabah. Hasan Sabah was born in Qom, spent some time in Nishabur, and was a classmate with people like Khaje Nezam al-Mulk Tusi and Omar Khayyam. In 469 AH, he traveled to Cairo and studied for 3 years, after which he returned to Iran and went to Alamut and settled there. In his description, he was a mysterious, thoughtful and righteous man.
About the architecture and style of the Alamut Castle, it said that it is made of two parts east and west and 120 meters high. There is a precipice around this castle to every side, and there is only one way to enter that castle from the northeast of the castle. In the southern part of this castle is a room, which is said to use as a part for guarding.
There are red rocks around the castle and the view from the castle to the abyss around is spectacular. As it was said, certain people lived in this castle and therefore naturally needed access to water, and as a result, in this castle, water storage was constructed that was designed to be as artifact as possible. In the heart of rocks and stones, there are also streams of water flowing into these reservoirs. They have sprinkled water from the fountain named Calder to this castle.
In 654 AH, the castle of Alamut demolished in order of a person named “holakookhan”, even they burnt the castle, and after that time, they used it for exile and prison. During the Qajar era, many excavations carried out in the fort in hopes of finding the treasure, which made the fort to destroy more than before.
This castle is about 108 km from Qazvin city, which is 2 to 3 hours long. Of course, along the way, there are beautiful and eye-catching scenery, and therefore the route will not be boring.
