On Thursday, experts from the Foundation for Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations had a joint meeting with the Geneva Team of the Cordoba Peace Institute at their office. In this meeting, Dr. Abbas Aroua, the founding director, Mr. Alistair Davison, the executive director, Dr. Lakhdar Ghettas and Ms. Meg-Ann Lenoble were present. In this meeting, the foundation and its activities, especially in the two basic areas of peace and human rights, including the holding of annual conferences, etc were presented.
There were significant points of commonality between the two institutions, which can be pointed out in the form of the concept of comprehensive efforts to create peace in West Asia based on a moderate interpretation of Islam. the founding director mentioned in a part of his statement that; “Our approach includes involving the parties involved in conflicts as widely as possible, along with creating a space for mediation between them and beyond building trust; collaborating with these groups and also using tools such as holding workshops; Educating people, collaborating with religious, political leaders and academic figures and other research activities”.
The Cordoba Peace Institute – Geneva (CPI) is an independent non-profit organization, working on violence prevention and peace promotion. CPI aims to enhance theoretical and practical conflict transformation resources and has extensive experience in West Asian and African contexts. CPI promotes a methodology adapted to and accepted by local communities, conflict parties and peace actors. Since 2002, it has developed unique access and networks in the countries where it works. The CPI has a small multi-cultural team in Geneva and the field, with a variety of backgrounds and experience. They are guided by the core values of non-violence, inclusiveness, impartiality, empathy and independence. CPI has Special Consultative Status with the United Nations.
