History

Ardabil is one of the oldest Iranian cities, dating back about 1 500 years. This city was under the rule of Bani omaye, the center of the Azerbaijani government and at the time of Bani Abbas, the Babak Khoramdin insurrection center. In 618 AH was attacked by the Mongols, but during the Timurid and Safavids, the Shiite movement and political movements of Iran raised up from the city. Ardebil became the center of the Safavid dynasty, culminating in its reputation, dignity, and greatness, but after the extinction of this dynasty in the historical changes of the Nadir Shah and early Qajar dynasties, especially with the arrival of the Russian armies in Iran and the events of the Constitutional Revolution, Get away from prosperity and importance. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, in order to deprive him of this city, its became the provincial capital on April 24, 1993. Many writers of the Islamic period attribute the construction of Ardabil to the Sassanid king Firuz, and they wrote that Ardebil was built on the orders of this king, who lived in the fifth century.

Ferdowsi attributes the construction of Ardabil to the Sassanid viceroy, piruz, in Shahnameh. But the history of Ardabil is much older than the time of Syria’s Firouze. Because Firouz had reigned in 459, and 34 years earlier, Bahram V, the son of Bahram Gur, was attacked by Heathen’s attack from Ardabil to Amol and Gorgan, and then to Khorasan, where he killed Khaqan Heathen. Due to its proximity to the Caucasus, Georgia and Armenia, Ardebil had a special place in Ardebil, during the wars of Iran and Russia during the Qajar period, Ardabil was the center of the Iranian Army’s forces deployment and operations headquarters against the tribes of the north. This place was destroyed due to the attack of the tribes of the north, and on the order of Firouz, the city was built, and the tower and barrow were built in it, and thus the construction of it is attributed to Firouz. In the sixth century BC, Zoroaster’s great prophet of Persia arose and, according to Avesta, the Book of Yasna was revealed on top of Mount Sabalan in Ardebil.

Most residents of Ardabil province are Azerbaijani who speak Azerbaijani Turkish. The efforts of other residents of Ardebil are spoken in a talysh language. In parts of the city of Khalkhal Tatts are inhabited and Tati language is common with the Azerbaijani Turkish language. The majority of people religious in this city are Islam. Also, the city’s Christians, who have often been Armenians, have emigrated in recent decades.
